Each summer, the TN Chapter of ASBDA, in tandem with the Tennessee Bandmasters Association, hosts a summer gathering to bring together band directors from across the state of Tennessee. The symposium provides a valuable professional development opportunity, and work begun at the TN Band Caucus meetings during the Tennessee Music Educators Association annual In-Service Conference in April is furthered.
The 2018 TBA/ASBDA Summer Symposium and Forum (following the Young Directors Symposium on Thursday, May 31) will be held Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2, at Freedom Middle School in Franklin, TN.
This year’s symposium will feature Richard and Cheryl Floyd, from Austin, TX. The schedule is as follows:
Friday, June 1 – Tennessee Bandmasters Association Summer Symposium
Richard and Cheryl Floyd, Guest Clinicians
9:00 am – Sessions with live demonstration ensemble
12:00 pm -Lunch (on your own in nearby downtown Franklin)
2:00 pm- Session topics

Saturday, June 2 – TBA Summer Forum to further work begun at the April TN Band Caucus meeting. If you are not a member of TBA, you may join on June 1 or 2. Some topics under the influence of the TN Band Caucus include: the TN State Graded Music List, scoring rubrics and procedures used at WTSBOA, MTSBOA and ETSBOA concert and marching performance assessments, the annual Solo and Small Ensemble recital concert held at TMEA each year, All-State concerns, and much more, all in an effort to align and unify practices and procedures across the state.

We need to know how many are coming! Please RSVP here to reserve your spot. This is the same form used for the ASBDA Young Directors Symposium on Thursday, May 31, 2018, so no need to submit it twice if you have already done so from the YDS page or elsewhere.
